We worked closely with the client on the entire design of this home, situated within a heavily wooded lot, minutes from downtown Portland. His vision was to incorporate the forest into the scope of the project as much as possible, allowing the natural area to return to its undisturbed state following the build. Tree preservation and re-planting were major hurdles with building officials, the approval process taking two years.

In the end, the owner could not have been more thrilled with the outcome. He, a gifted and refined designer in his own right, oversaw and executed the entirety of all furniture and interior design so as to thoughtfully complement this home design and construction.

The original site was a long, sloping lawn; the client wanted to create a separate terrace for plants and a new terrace for a large golf putting green. We used the same basalt as the original house project to create this long, sloping, and serpentine curved stone retaining wall with stairs down from the original elevation.

This client had a small, undefined entry space that required defined areas for lounging, and a pathway to the garage. Our concept was simple: create a small flagstone area for lounging, a stone planter to define the new concrete entry, and a meandering pathway and garden leading to the garage.

This was a large-scale residential project using Montana Ledgestone for all architectural stone veneers, stone columns, retaining walls, and fireplaces. Quartzite Flagstone was used for all pathways, patios, and exterior steps.

The owners gave us complete design freedom to create this unique outdoor stone fireplace. We used basalt columns for the outside corners, posts, and lintel of the fireplace; infilled with a small basalt dry-stacked mosaic and small niches for candles.

Our goal was to design and build a fireplace that would best express a rugged outdoor environment; we used large stones for ledges and smaller stones for niches that conceal ambient lighting.

Clients wanted to turn their unusable front yard into a private entry garden on the shady side of the house.

To make this happen, we built concrete retaining walls to build a level garden, a steel and mahogany fence, architectural concrete pavers, and a wall of glass showcasing the view out to the new garden from inside the home.

This project served as the focal point of a new inner courtyard at the Matisse Apartments, along the Willamette River in Portland's South Waterfront. We utilized the stone and concrete to enable this area to function as an aesthetic oasis where both residents and guests can relax and unwind.

This project consisted of resurfacing an old brick facade with a new Architectural Stone Veneer. Each stone was hand-cut outside and brought back into the room for fitting- a slow and painstaking process!

The original intent for the homeowner was to repair the stairs at the front door. The final design and result is a pergola entry using acid-etched concrete, large basalt blocks, water features, floating pathways and raised planters.
